Todd Lewis and Mike Jaspering Receive State Honor
Middle School Coaches Mike Jaspering and Todd Lewis were named Middle School Football Coaches of the Year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. Scott Heitland, high school head football coach, nominated the two coaches. At a surprise assembly at the middle school, Jaspering and Lewis were presented signed footballs by their children to mark the occasion. Both staff members were recognized at the state football finals.
MIKE "BUCK" BUCKALEW RECEIVES STATE AWARD
Each year, the Iowa Football Coaches Association recognizes individuals who over the years have contributed in various ways to the football programs in their communities with the Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes people who get involved not for special recognition or the individual glory, but for the love of the game and most importantly, the love of the kids.
It is with great pride that our DC-G football family is having one of its own recognized this year as a recipient of this award. Mike Buckalew is a 1971 graduate of Dallas Center-Grimes High School. Over the past 20 years, Mike has served the football program at DC-G in a variety of ways. He has volunteered as a coach at the middle school level, served on the staff at the high school level, volunteered as a weight room coordinator, volunteered to drive the bus to take the football team to camp, and even worked on the sidelines as a statistician.
Known to most of our athletes simply as “Buck”, he continually gives his time and talents to do anything that he can for the kids at DC-G.
Congratulations to a loyal Mustang and a deserving recipient of this great award.
TRICK PLAYS LIFT KNOXVILLE PAST MUSTANGS IN SEASON FINALE
Dallas Center-Grimes’ football season came to an end with a
21-7 loss to Knoxville on Oct. 21 in Grimes.
The Mustangs got on the board first when senior wide receiver Tyler Peyton threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jake Lewis.
Knoxville tied the game at seven when the Panthers lined up for a field goal with backup quarterback Garrett Davis in at kicker. Instead, he took a direct snap and passed to starting quarterback Bryant McWilliams for the game-tying touchdown.
Knoxville jumped ahead on a 56-yard touchdown pass from receiver Dylan Crouse to Justin Garrison that put the Panthers at a 13-7 halftime advantage. The Panthers added another touchdown in the second half on a 20-yard interception return by Ross Clarke.
DC-G quarterback Mike Foggia was 9-of-16 passing for 147 yards. Peyton caught six passes for 109 yards and Lewis had two catches for 48 yards. On the ground, Alex Hansen racked up a game-high 145 yards rushing on 21 carries.
The Mustang defense was led by a 13-tackle night from senior Zach Gardner. Jared Kramer added 10 tackles and Jordan DeWald finished with nine. Junior Spencer Grosklags contributed seven.
Knoxville finished the season with a 2-7 record. The Mustangs ended at 1-8.
